CUAV SKYE Heated Airspeed Sensor for Pixhawk

CUAV SKYE Airspeed sensor has an automatic heated pitot tube mechanism. Heated pitot airspeed sensors are highly demanded in DIY UAVs by using Pixhawk flight controllers, it makes the drones more reliable and improves the robustness of the avionics systems. By using CUAV SKYE heated airspeed sensor you can have a decent feature and reduce the probability of measurement error. This pixhawk airspeed sensor has a Dual Temperature Control System to do the airspeed compensation automatically, significantly improving the drone’s safety level and making it operational in harsh environments. It can also pass the IP44 protection standard. In the end, by processing collected data with a highly integrated STM32F4 processor and industrial-level CAN interface you can easily use it with most Pixhawk flight controllers or any DroneCAN-supported flight controls.

FAQ – CUAV SKYE Heated Airspeed Sensor for Pixhawk

  1. What is the SKYE Heated Airspeed Sensor used for?
It measures dynamic airspeed in UAVs using a heated pitot tube to improve reliability in harsh conditions.

  2. Which autopilot platforms does it support?
It supports DroneCAN communication and is compatible with PX4 and ArduPilot based systems.

  3. What are key features of the sensor’s heating and environment handling?
It incorporates a high-power pitot tube heating system (~35W) and automatic de-icing/drainage functionality to avoid data errors from ice or rain.

  4. What does the electrical/power and interface profile look like?
It uses a CAN bus interface for data, a power input range suitable for UAV systems (e.g., 12-34V or higher depending on version), and is designed for robust mounting away from prop-wash turbulence.

  5. What installation / calibration considerations should you know?
You must mount the sensor clear of airflow disturbances (e.g., propellers), wait for the heating to stabilize before calibration, and perform airspeed offset calibration in a no-wind environment.

  6. Is this product suitable for professional fixed-wing/VTOL UAVs?
Yes — because of its precision, environment-tolerant design (rain, icing, low temperature) and open-source autopilot compatibility, it is a strong choice for advanced UAV applications.
