Multirotor Drone

What is multirotor drone / Difference with fixed wing

Multirotor drones are types of drones that include multiple motors that work together to lift the drone vertically. The main difference between them compared to fixed wing drones is that they do not have a wing for flying. This makes multi rotors dynamically unstable and require a control system for stabilization during flight, which is done with the help of an onboard inertial measurement unit (IMU), to control the attitude of the drone.

On the other hand, fixed wing drones can glide using their wings, which gives them higher speed while less energy is consumed. Moreover, they can move in all directions without rotating the whole frame, which is in contrast to fixed-wing drones. This means that multirotors need to know the direction that they are facing, which necessitates the use of a compass sensor for autonomous missions, while fixed-wing drones can find the direction based on the direction of movement using a GPS sensor. Some multirotor drones have a foldable arm design, which makes them compact to easily fit inside a small package for transportation. With carbon fiber arms, the umbrella foldable design system uses some quick lock mechanism to allow for easy and fast assembly and disassembly of the drone. In this design, the multirotor should also use a foldable propeller.

Range of multirotor

Based on the difference that was mentioned, the range of multirotor drones is usually less than fixed wing drones. Multirotor drone flight time is less, and thus they can fly over a shorter range compared to fixed wing drones. This becomes important in long missions like surveying missions or mapping a large area. In this scenario, the multirotor drone needs to return to home in a short time after take off in order to replace the battery, and then take off again to continue the mission.

Explore Diverse Multirotor Drones: MotioNew’s Versatile UAV Solutions for Every Application

MotioNew offers different multirotor drone models which are suitable for different applications. Coming in different configurations, they can have 4 (quadrotors or quadcopters) or more than 4 (hexarotors or other types). MotioNew offers different models with different flying times based on their size and maximum payload that they can carry. Most of the multirotor UAV models that MotioNew offers are built with carbon fiber, which provides a firm structure and allows them to be operated under various harsh weather conditions and different temperatures.

Delivery Drones for Humanitarian Missions and Disaster Response

Delivery drones are types of multirotor service drone that have gained more interest over the past few days. This can be useful for humanitarian purposes where using a drone, packages including first aid kits and medical kits, food, and clean water is delivered to places that are out of human reach. This is very important in the case of natural disasters like a flood, or climbers stuck in mountains due to an avalanche. More to package delivery, installing an optical payload under the multirotor UAV helps in rescue missions like fire hazards or earthquakes to search for human life. Using a thermal or night vision optical payload can help in case of the existence of collapsed buildings and debris.

MotioNew’s Advanced Multirotor Drones for Efficient Farming Solutions

Agricultural drones are another types of multirotor drones that MotioNew offers. Having a water tank, you can fill it with water to autonomously water the field and crops in a short period of time without damaging the crops. For the farmers, the advantage over using a tractor is that the crops are not damaged. Multiple nozzles are installed on the arms to spray the liquid contained inside the tank with the help of a pump, with a controllable flow.

They have a waterproof body that gives you ease of mind during operation. Operating in harsh conditions and dealing with mud and dust, you can wash them using a hose without any trouble to internal circuits. Installing RTK systems makes the operation easier and more accurate. Instead of a water tank, you can also install a granule spreader to spread the seeds over the farm field.

Different Types of Multirotor drones

Equipped with 4 motors, quadcopters are the most used type of multirotor drones. They can be made in small dimensions, and can be as light as 200g or less. They are easy to operate and energy efficient due to the small number of motors. It is possible to include a folding mechanism in the arms to fit in a small package for transportation.

Quadcopters can come in different configurations. The important thing is that the rotation direction of all motors should neutralize each other to make it possible to control the yaw direction of the quadcopter. The type of the propeller that is used for each motor should be compatible with its direction of rotation.

Some of the well-known quadcopter configurations are X, H, and plus configurations. This configuration refers to the structure of the frame and positioning of the motors with respect to each other, which is an important factor in the drone’s control algorithm.

Hexacopters are the next type of multirotors with 6 motors. They are more powerful compared to quadcopters and can carry heavier payloads. Higher number of motors usually means that they can carry a bigger battery, and therefore have a longer time of flight which makes them suitable for longer mission. If an appropriate wireless communication link is installed on them, they can be used in long range missions.

Hexacopters also come in different configurations. Again, the important thing is that the rotation direction of all motors should neutralize each other to make it possible to control the yaw direction of the drone.

Octocopters are multirotors equipped with 8 motors. Compared to quadcopters and hexacopters, they usually have bigger frames, which require smore powerful motors and bigger propellers for a more efficient system. This means you need to install the motors at a further distance such that the propellers do not coincide with each other. Due to the higher available lift from the motors, they can carry heavier payloads.
